Did you know that the first recorded cases of breast cancer were made over 3,500 years ago? You might also be surprised to learn how Hippocrates, the father of Western Medicine, viewed this disease. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month this year, the folks at Achieve Clinical Research wanted to take a look back at some of the most important breakthroughs that have been made over the history of breast cancer research.

This infographic shows a detailed timeline of some of most important events in breast cancer research history. If it weren’t for these historical landmarks, we wouldn’t know mammography is an effective method of detecting early-stage breast cancer or that there were better treatment alternatives to radical mastectomy.
