Every so often I’ll run across a friend or prospective client that wants to start a new business. Or there are those who already have a business but have yet to build a web site (can you believe that). Always, one of the first things I as k them is, “Have you acquired a domain name yet?” If not, I advise them to try to get a domain that is an exact match of their brand/company name or at least get as close as possible. Additionally, I advise that if they can, to obtain a .com domain name and if available, grab the .net and .org versions as well.

There certainly is some strategy in buying a domain name. Not only can they paint a picture of your brand or business, they can be investments as well. The following infographic published by DomainNameSales.com, provides a basic education on how to go about domain name acquisition.
