When Motorola launched the first 1G mobile phone in 1983, there were 148,855 subscribers to mobile networks worldwide. In the subsequent 29 years, the mobile landscape has changed considerably, with 5.9 billion subscribers worldwide and smartphones opening up whole new ways of communicating on the go.
