You’ve probably noticed that many of your friends have cut the cord and given up cable TV and landlines. The Ooma study, Cutting the Cord Statistics in the U.S., shows that millions of Americans have joined the trend of switching from traditional wired services to wireless and Internet-based services.
The infographic shows that wireless-only households are the norm, with almost 80% of adults having no landline. Cable T.V. has also lost popularity. Half of all U.S. households with Internet no longer use cable, and a large chunk have never used cable in the first place.
Statistics show that cost is the biggest driver in cord-cutting. People who gave up cable reported saving around $1,000 a year. Some people prefer streaming services like Netflix and Hulu, which give viewers more control over what they watch for a lower price than bundled cable packages. Landlines and cable used to be the American standard, but this tech is quickly becoming a thing of the past.
