Did you know that unemployment not only causes financial distress, but also increases your chances of becoming addicted to drugs, as well? Drug use and employment status have a direct correlation to one another, in which when jobs go down, drug use increases.

In the United States alone, 18.1% of those who are unemployed use illicit drugs. This may not seem like a huge number, but in reality it is more than double the amount of users who are employed. Additionally, when unemployment rises so does alcohol abuse and driving under the influence, only leading to even more problems and possibly death.

This infographic looks at the relationship between unemployment and drug abuse.
