Honor societies are reserved for high-performing students in areas such as academics and volunteer work. Entry into these prestigious groups comes with a range of opportunities from leadership positions to scholarships. Alumni gain an advantage as they can use networks they’ve built through their programs to create career opportunities and stand out from other job applicants.

Many of these honor societies started out as secret organizations for individuals looking to meet with like-minded people who wanted to engage with society in a meaningful way. These societies had special initiation rites, mottos and more. To this day, many of these groups still have a specialized diploma, symbol and saying.
