The team at Kremp provides insight into the world of baby names with an infographic charting the most popular names every decade for the past 100 years.

Names are inspired by traditions and cultural influences. There are biblical figures, celebrities, old family names, and fictional characters that might inspire a name.

Explore the most popular choices through the infographic, compare names through the decades, and maybe guess as the source of these super popular names.

For example, John, a biblical name with a lot of historical significance, was the most popular name in 1920 and remained in the top 10 most popular names all the way until 1980 when it dropped off the chart. Other examples are James, another biblical name, and William, an old classic.

These names stayed consistently on the chart and dropped off for a few decades, only to return to the top 10 in 2023. Girl names are a lot more changeable. None of the names from the 1920’s appear on 2023’s list.
