The team at Ooma examined the ever-changing world of messenger communication by gathering data on the most popular apps around the world. They used their results to map out the most popular choice in each country and determine which app is used the most by calculating the number of people in each country who used the app.
WhatsApp offers chat, video, and voice calls, but it’s far more affordable than traditional communication services. It’s a cost-effective way for people to communicate with loved ones outside their home country, too.
Meta Platforms owns WhatsApp along with the other hyper-popular app, Facebook Messenger. This means that Meta owns the majority of the messaging apps used worldwide because, according to the data, these two apps are favored in most countries. Notable exceptions are China’s WeChat, South Korea’s Kakao Talk, and Russia’s Telegram.
