The team at PARequirements studied the amount of children’s soda consumption in states across America to determine where kids drink the most and least soda. The findings are revealed in a map that displays a clear “soda belt” in southern states where consumption is highest.
The states with the highest soda consumption, with the most children drinking one or more sodas daily, are West Virginia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Alabama.
This interesting finding prompts questions about why soda consumption is higher in the South. It could be due to Southern states having a stronger “soda” culture, where it’s more common to have a soda with a meal. After all, many top soda companies originated in the Southern states. It’s important to examine if part of the issue is tied to a lack of decent drinking water and fresh food.
