Many employees would strongly prefer work-from-home options, but some companies hesitate to offer those options. The team at Ooma examined what patterns might emerge in work-from-home attitudes and what obstacles stand in the way of remote work options.

The team found that job incompatibility was the number one reason companies didn’t offer remote work options. Between 56.8% and 69.1% of companies that didn’t offer remote work said it was because the work wasn’t possible to complete remotely. Older companies were the most likely to give this reason.

Other companies stated security concerns, which were most prevalent among the younger companies under two years old. IT security issues among younger companies suggest that they rely more on cloud-based solutions and modern apps, which are susceptible to hackers.

The most surprising result was that 39.7% of the youngest companies claimed that there were no limiting factors to offering remote work. This suggests some young companies may have built their work model around remote work possibilities.
