Who needs a scrapbook when you own a t-shirt collection? T-shirts provide people with a canvas to advertise, to memorialize, and to commemorate the causes and events that are important to them. For many people, the collection starts with a beloved cartoon character emblazoned on a brightly colored, child-sized shirt. These iconic tees mark a collective conscience, a cultural hallmark. The 60s made popular many iconic shirts, from the symbol of the peace sign to tie dye. Others, like Nike’s Just Do It represent an American attitude as much as a brand slogan.
