The Joslyn Law Firm highlights the ongoing issue of gun-related homicides in the U.S., illustrating the changes between 2018 and 2022 with this infographic comparing counties with the highest rates of homicide.

Despite past periods of higher gun violence, the current increase in firearms homicide is concerning. In 2018, about 1 out of 100,000 Americans were victims of gun violence, but this figure rose to 5 per 100,000 in 2022.

Orleans Parish in Louisiana, which includes New Orleans, saw a sharp rise in gun deaths, with 200 firearm homicides in 2022, compared to 106 in 2018. Several counties that were high on the list in 2018 remained in 2022, showing a persistent issue in these areas. However, new counties such as Portsmouth, Virginia, and Orangeburg County, South Carolina, have emerged as high-risk regions.

This data underscores the urgent need to address the factors contributing to the rising levels of gun violence across the country.
