Snowbirds are sun-lovers who flock south to seek out sunshine and warm weather to escape the dreary, snowy, often brutal northern winters. A recent study from Florida Rentals creates a scoring system to determine the best locations for America’s snowbirds.

It’s no surprise that Florida is the ultimate destination, attracting about a million snowbirds during the winter, enough to increase the state population by 5%. Arizona was another popular option with its vast desert and weather full of sunny, clear days, and it is also one of the least humid states, thanks to the dry climate.

Older folks can appreciate these qualities since high pressure, low humidity, and low winds can help lower arthritis pain and other ailments. The team didn’t just look at the weather, though. Since so many snowbirds are retirees, they analyzed population demographics to pinpoint where people over 65 will find their community and social networks.
