A new study from Tawkify reveals that the places in the United States most open to big dating age gaps aren’t the coastal states or big-city hubs, but small-population states like Wyoming, Alaska, and the Dakotas. A thinner local dating pool seems to nudge singles to widen their dating age range. A smaller population forces more flexibility. Hawaii fits into this trend too as an island with an older average population and some of the nation’s widest partner age gaps.
The study found that gender also affects dating age gaps. Women tend to date older and men tend to date younger. The extent of the gap also differs, with women willing to date someone up to 14 years older and men willing to date someone up to nine years younger. Geography may set the dating pool, since openness to age gaps reflects who’s actually available to date.
