With their new study, the team at NapLab focused on a fascinating area of sleep: where Americans across the nation sleep at night. The conditions someone sleeps in can significantly impact the quality of their sleep. The findings in this study offer insight into how many people can afford a home, how many live in group settings, and other fascinating details.

The vast majority of Americans, 98%, live in a single-family home they either own or rent. Others have opted for full-time RV living, and .08% are without shelter and unsure of where they’ll sleep from night to night. The remaining Americans live in group settings, including apartment buildings, dorm rooms, nursing homes, and prisons.

The graphic shows precisely how many Americans live in each setting.
