Many factors can damage a car, leading to expensive repairs or even a total loss. The Grease Monkey researcher considered the most impactful factors that damage a car and used this to score every state.
Their results show that cars in Texas see the most damage. Texas is likely to experience extreme weather, like high UV ray exposure, high humidity, and hail. In fact, Texas has the most hail events out of any state, and hail can be extremely destructive to cars.
Texas is also no stranger to natural disasters like floods and tornadoes that can wipe out cars completely. Combine this with subpar road conditions, a higher rate of traffic accidents, and coastal locations with salty air that can rust cars, and we can see why cars in the Lone Star state might age faster or face catastrophic damage.
