Excess waste is a concern around the world as we fight pollution, overcrowding, and disease caused by unsanitary conditions. This study from Paper Boss shows us not only which countries produce the most garbage but which recycle the most garbage.
The booming nation of Bahrain produces the most trash, at 907 kilograms per person per year. Canada produces the third most waste per person, at 777 kilograms per person per year; however, it recycles 27% of that garbage to help lower the output.
The leader in recycling is Germany, which recycles an impressive 47% of trash produced. Germany has succeeded at recycling by creating a culture that celebrates recycling at an early age. They teach children how to separate trash and the importance of recycling. Citizens who don’t recycle face hefty fines or uncollected trash.
