NapLab’s new study on attraction sheds light on how culture and location can create distinct preferences in physical attraction across the U.S. The research shows that our standards of beauty aren’t universal. Geography, climate, and local culture seem to influence what Americans are attracted to.

The study’s state-by-state analysis asked participants to identify which body part they find most attractive, and their answers showed us interesting patterns between region and preferences.

For example, Hawaii’s warm climate and plentiful beaches lead many people to bare their skin and spend a lot of time in swimwear. This probably influenced women there to say they find abs most attractive. They see more shirtless men daily than people in other climates do. California’s movie star culture caused both genders to find facial features most attractive.
